Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) is a multi-campus institution with vibrant, urban campuses in Boston, Massachusetts, in nearby Chelsea, Massachusetts, and at several satellites and instructional sites throughout the Greater Boston area. The largest of the 15 community colleges in Massachusetts, BHCC serves some 18,000 students annually, focusing on holistic student services to ensure student retention and persistence. The College offers certificates and associate degrees, early college and dual enrollment, non-credit community and corporate training, and industry-specific training programs.
BHCC is the 8th most diverse higher education institution in the United States, and is an Asian American and Pacific Islander Serving Institution. Bunker Hill is also a Hispanic Service Institution, defined as an institution that has an enrollment of undergrad full-time equivalent students that is at least 25 percent Hispanic students. Approximately 1000 international students attend from 100 countries, speaking more than 75 languages.
The ELL Course Facilitator for the Adult Education Program provides high-quality English language instruction to adult learners. The position supports the development of reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills that prepare students for postsecondary education, workforce training, career advancement, and civic engagement. Instructors must be able to teach English language learners across a range of proficiency levels, from beginning literacy through high intermediate, while aligning instruction with the Massachusetts English Language Proficiency Standards for Adult Education (MA ELPS).
Instruction should reflect a student-centered approach and incorporate differentiated teaching strategies, culturally responsive practices, integrated education and career pathways, and meaningful technology integration to support diverse learner needs and goals. The ELL Course Facilitator collaborates closely with the Adult Education leadership team and program staff to promote student persistence, educational achievement, successful transitions, and continuous program improvement.
Responsibilities- Align curriculum (scope and sequence, units, lesson plans, and instructional practices) with the Massachusetts English Language Proficiency Standards for Adult Education (MA ELPS) and program learning outcomes.
- Implement the approved curriculum and instructional materials while incorporating supplemental resources to maintain relevance and meet diverse learner needs.
- Utilize instructional technology effectively to support student learning and maintain timely and accurate attendance, assessment, and required program documentation.
- Stay current with research, evidence-based instructional practices, and emerging trends in adult education and English language instruction.
- Maintain accurate attendance records, student assessments, educational progress documentation, and other required program records.
- Collaborate with the Adult Education leadership team and instructional staff to support curriculum alignment, student persistence, and successful transitions to postsecondary education, workforce training, employment, and career advancement.
- Attend Adult Education program meetings, instructional planning meetings, and other required staff meetings.
- Participate in curriculum alignment, assessment calibration, and continuous improvement activities.
- Attend and actively participate in required professional development workshops, conferences, and trainings.
- Bachelor's degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, English, Education, or a closely related field required; master's degree, Massachusetts teaching licensure, and/or TESOL certification preferred.
- Experience teaching English language learners or adult learners, including online instruction.
- Availability to teach in person at either the Chelsea or Charlestown campus.
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate engaging, student-centered, and interactive learning environments.
- Proficiency with instructional technology and Microsoft Office.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations and as part of a collaborative team.
Compensation: $45.00 per hour. Opportunities to participate in professional development and curriculum alignment activities are available.
