SummaryParticipates in the planning, engineering, design and construction of projects related to the Metropolitan Tunnel Redundancy Program as well as rehabilitation and capital improvement of other water and wastewater facilities and infrastructure.

Salary: $74,614.17 - $ Annually ($1,434.89 - $2,003.61 Weekly)

Key Responsibilities- Works on tasks in the management of all phases of consultant selection and supervision of professional engineering contracts, including the development of scope of services, plans and specifications, cost estimates, work schedules, technical review of consultant work, negotiations, and preparation of contract award recommendations.
- Participates in the preparation of concept and preliminary design reports, designs, and cost estimates. Participates in the development, implementation and monitoring of construction and service contracts, plans and specifications for proposed construction, modifications/ replacements, permit applications and permits. Participates in shop drawing reviews.
- Assists in the oversight of geotechnical, geological and hydrogeological investigation programs and related work performed by consultants and contractors. Oversees multi-phase subsurface investigation programs, soil sampling, rock coring, geologic mapping, geophysical surveys, in-situ testing, instrumentation installation, analytical sampling, borehole logging, and laboratory testing programs related to the Tunnel Redundancy Program as well as assigned water and wastewater engineering and or maintenance projects.
- Participates in the management of geotechnical databases, subsurface data, geotechnical/ geological/hydrogeological records, and other project documents, including records access, and exchange of technical information. Participates in the development of calculations, design documents and the gathering of information for inclusion in engineering reports, construction activities, proposed modifications/replacements, technical or planning studies, and evaluations.
- Participates in the review of consultant submittals for quality work, budgets and schedules, conformance to contract terms, conformance with engineering practices and Authority policies, conformance with applicable regulatory and bidding law requirements and conformance with Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) procedures.
- Participates in the inspection of construction for conformance to plans and specifications, and plans sequence of work with contractors on jobs and submits progress reports. Acts as a Resident Engineer on minor construction projects.
- Participates in project coordination with other MWRA departments, communities, public interest groups and government agencies.
- Participates in contract administration tasks.
- Drafts internal or external memoranda, correspondence, reports, and specifications.
- Performs special tasks, projects and other related duties as required.
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, geology, construction management, or related engineering field; and
- At least one (1) year of planning, engineering, design or construction experience on water and/or wastewater facilities design or construction is preferred; or
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A valid Class D Motor Vehicle Operators License.
- May be eligible for up to 50% telework after an initial waiting period.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of civil and geotechnical engineering, or bedrock geology is preferred.
- Familiarity with computer software packages such as MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience in GIS, ArcGIS, AutoCAD, gINT, and software related to engineering is preferred.
- Experience in field oversight of subsurface investigations or construction is preferred.
- Demonstrated abilities to work as part of a project team and to develop and maintain productive working relationships with external parties.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
Office equipment as normally associated with the use of telephone, personal computer including word processing and other software, copy and fax machine.
