SUMMARY STATEMENT OF DUTIES

Maintain the security and the physical plant safety at the Senior Center and the cleanliness of its environs. Maintain order and secure the building. Custodial functions.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS and DUTIES
  • Daily maintenance and security of the Senior Center including second floor and roof deck.
  • Prepare rooms for programs and activities; set up and take down for daily activities and special programs.
  • Provide clean and safe environment, including refrigerator, freezer, cabinets, basement and storage rooms, which may include using cleaning chemicals.
  • Maintain the Senior Center facilities for year-round use; keep entrances swept and clean, and free of tripping hazards, check regularly for needed repair of structure, inside and outside, keep entrances free of snow and ice, maintain building temperature and assure all filters involved with air conditioning are kept clean.
  • Able to operate manual and power equipment.
  • Site manage monthly food program; take inventory, break down cases of food for distribution, assist volunteers in packing and distribution of food for income eligible seniors.
  • May supply the Director with written data for reports; pass out equipment and supplies; and collect and store after use.
  • May assist in transportation to and from events.
  • May provide information to groups and participants to inform of the physical plant and location of restrooms and similar basic informational needs.
  • Maintain the office machinery in good running order and keep inventory of service needs of key office Senior Center equipment (e.g. PC’s, fax machines, phones, and photocopier).
  • Maintain inventory of maintenance equipment, supplies and tools.
  • Maintain contracts and required scheduled maintenance related activities.
  • Maintain coordination with outside vendors for maintenance of building.
  • Maintain security of all areas of building at end of day.
OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide back up when needed for reception duties.
  • Act as courier for documents and material to be provided to various administrative locations, including City Hall.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • High School diploma or equivalent

Experience:

  • One year of general maintenance work in office environment
  • Paid or volunteer experience in working with the elderly.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities :

  • Must have valid driver’s license.
  • General knowledge of maintenance functions and building upkeep.
  • Ability to perform general repairs and upkeep that does not require licensed repair person and the ability to discern when a licensed repair person is needed.
  • Must be physically able to lift and bend to perform the maintenance functions as well as to assist the physically limited senior to participate, if possible.
  • Work reliably from written instruction; able to read accurately and perform basic math.
  • Ability to operate tools of the trade such as, but not limited to, floor buffer, snow plow, power washer, plumbing tools, power snake, vacuum, carpentry tools, etc.
  • Ability to perform general upkeep of office equipment such as replacing phone cords, removing paper jams, etc.
  • Requires very good communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with the elderly population.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.

Tact and consideration of the senior population is very important. Good hearing and speech in order to communicate effectively with the senior population.
