Part-Time LPN - Urgent Care - MGH

Job Summary

Under the supervision of a Nurse Manager, licensed clinical leader, or non‑clinical practice manager—and in collaboration with other team members—provides direct and indirect patient care in accordance with the scope of practice.

• Interview patients about current problems, medications, and allergies, and review medical records for pertinent information.
• Measure and record patients' vital signs; perform additional screening exams such as hearing, vision, depression, or falls assessments as needed.
• Provide basic patient care and treatments, including dressing wounds, treating bedsores, administering enemas or douches, applying alcohol rubs, massaging, performing catheterizations, administering routine immunizations, and providing nebulizer treatments and visual acuity tests.
• Participate in patient treatment regimen, including administering medications under the supervision of a physician or registered nurse.
• Communicate post‑visit findings and participate in the plan of care in coordination with appropriate clinical staff.
• Perform office responsibilities: answer phones, take messages, and perform triage within the scope of licensed practical nursing practice in an accurate and timely manner.
• Collect samples such as blood, urine, or sputum from patients, and perform routine laboratory tests on samples.
• Prepare patients for examinations, tests, or treatments and explain procedures.
• Assist patients with bathing, dressing, maintaining personal hygiene, transferring in bed, and standing or walking.

Education:

Trade/Technical/Vocational Diploma—Licensed Practical Nurse required.

Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No.

• Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – State License required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred.
• Medical experience 0‑1 year preferred.
• Basic knowledge of patient education, interviewing, teaching and engagement techniques, and health‑related conditions.
• Ability to accurately perform vital signs and gather health information.
• Ability to administer medication via injections, intravenous, and oral routes.
• Knowledge and ability to perform specific procedures and tests appropriate to the clinical setting.
• Professional, courteous, clear, and concise communication skills.
