The Fleet Mechanic for the Chelsea location is responsible for the complete oversight and execution of all maintenance and repair activities for a fleet of twelve (12) Class 8 tractors and thirteen (13) MC406 petroleum tank trailers. This is a hands-on, self-directed position requiring an experienced individual who can independently manage all aspects of the maintenance shop while ensuring fleet safety, reliability, regulatory compliance, and maximum equipment uptime
Responsibilities:- Perform preventive maintenance, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on Class 8 trucks and MC406 petroleum tank trailers
- Manage all daily operations of the maintenance shop with little to no supervision
- Maintain preventive maintenance schedules to maximize equipment reliability and minimize downtime
- Ensure all equipment complies with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, EPA, and applicable hazardous materials regulations
- Inspect, repair, and maintain petroleum tank trailer components, including valves, vapor recovery systems, emergency shutoffs, and loading/unloading equipment
- Coordinate annual DOT inspections, tank certifications, and required testing
- Diagnose and repair diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension, steering, electrical systems, air systems, and hydraulic components
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, repair histories and inspection documentation
- Maintain inventory accuracy for parts room consisting of more than $50,000 of inventory
- Order parts, tools, and shop supplies while controlling maintenance costs
- Coordinate with vendors and outside repair facilities when specialized repairs are required
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment
- Respond to emergency roadside breakdowns and prioritize repairs to minimize operational disruptions
- Recommend equipment replacements, and maintenance strategies to improve fleet performance and reduce operating costs
Daily interaction with driver managers, drivers, outside vendors, logistics team, fleet technicians and management personnel
Minimum Education:High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Preferred Education:Graduate of a Technical Institute with primary focus in diesel engine repair.
Minimum Experience:- Minimum of 5 years of heavy-duty truck maintenance experience, with experience maintaining Class 8 diesel trucks
