Job Summary
The Lecturer in Costume Design and Technology will serve as a key faculty member in the Theatre Program and is responsible for teaching, production, and costume shop management. The position is expected to begin mid‑September 2026.
The typical workload involves teaching 30 credits per academic year, subject to department needs, and designing costumes for up to three mainstage productions each season. The lecturer will also manage the costume shop, overseeing a student staff and handling all aspects of wardrobe for the 15 credits of teaching release.
Committee service is not required unless explicitly assigned and approved by the Department Chair and College Dean. All faculty are expected to participate in assessment of student learning and maintain health and safety protocols in assigned classrooms.
Required Qualifications- MFA in Theatre
- Expertise in Theatrical Costume Design and Construction and Make‑up Design and application.
- Record of success teaching Theatre classes at the college level, which may include experience as an MFA candidate.
- Professional theatre credits in costume design and technology.
- Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that supports the needs, including universal accessibility, of students, faculty, staff, and the public.
- MFA in Costume Design
- Ability to teach in lecture‑based theatre classes such as Theatre History and Theatre in the Humanities
- Record of success teaching at the college level for 3+ years.
- Experience with Health & Safety protocols
- Experience with costume shop management

- Teach undergraduate courses in Costume Design and Technology, including construction, textiles, rendering, and design processes.
- Teach additional courses as assigned based on expertise and departmental needs:
- Stage Make‑up
- Theatre in the Humanities
- Theatre History
- Concepts of Theatrical Design
- Integrate experiential and career-connected learning opportunities into coursework.
- Meet all scheduled classes; plan, organize and inform students of course content, texts, readings, assignments, attendance regulations, and methods of evaluation including grading scales; schedule and attend office hours; turn in grades according to established deadlines.
- Serve as Costume Designer for up to three mainstage productions annually, including:
- Concept development and collaboration with directors and production team
- Costume rendering, research, fittings, and execution
- Oversight of costume budgets and schedules
- Serve as Costume Shop Manager, responsible for all aspects of costume production, including:
- Supervising and mentoring student employees and production crews
- Overseeing costume construction, alterations, and maintenance
- Managing costume stock, inventory, and organization
- Maintaining shop equipment and supplies
- Ensuring safe working practices and compliance with health and safety standards
- Coordinating wardrobe needs for all departmental productions
- Participate in assessment of student learning outcomes.
- Maintain health and safety protocols in classrooms, labs, and production spaces.
- Engage in departmental and college activities as appropriate.

Conditions of EmploymentThe required start date for this position is 9/16/2026. Applicants must be available to start no later than 09/16/2026.

Salary InformationThe expected salary upon hire is $51,989.
