Job Summary

College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Science invites applications for a 100% special faculty/lecturer position in the Fine and Performing Arts Department to begin mid‑September 2026. The Lecturer in Costume Design and Technology will serve as a key faculty member in the Theatre Program
, with primary responsibilities in teaching, production, and costume shop management.

Responsibilities
  • Teach a typical load of 30 credits per academic year, subject to department needs.
    • Design, develop, and teach undergraduate courses in Costume Design and Technology, covering construction, textiles, rendering, and design processes.
    • Teach additional courses as assigned, such as Stage Make‑up, Theatre in the Humanities, Theatre History, and Concepts of Theatrical Design.
    • Integrate experiential and career‑connected learning opportunities into coursework.
  • Support production design and costume shop management.
    • Serve as costume designer for up to three main‑stage productions annually, including concept development, costume rendering, research, fittings, and execution.
    • Manage the costume shop, overseeing budget, schedule, and resources; supervise and mentor student employees and production crews; maintain inventory, supplies, and shop equipment.
    • Ensure compliance with health and safety standards and coordinate wardrobe needs for all departmental productions.
  • Participate in assessment of student learning outcomes and maintain health and safety protocols in classrooms, labs, and production spaces.
  • Engage in departmental and college activities as appropriate; committee service is not required unless explicitly assigned by department chair or dean.
Qualifications
  • MFA in Theatre.
  • Expertise in theatrical costume design and construction and make‑up design and application.
  • Record of successful teaching at the college level, including experience as an MFA candidate.
  • Professional theatre credits in costume design and technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that supports the needs, including universal accessibility, of students, faculty, staff, and the public.
Preferred Qualifications
  • MFA in Costume Design.
  • Ability to teach lecture‑based theatre classes such as Theatre History and Theatre in the Humanities.
  • Record of successful teaching at the college level for 3+ years.
  • Experience with health and safety protocols.
  • Experience with costume shop management.

Work Schedule

Schedule will vary from quarter to quarter to fulfill the position’s responsibilities; assignments may include evening dress rehearsals.

Employment Conditions
  • Required start date: 9/15/2026.
  • Position is 9 months per academic year, mid‑September through mid‑June.
  • Background check required prior to beginning employment.
  • Immunization compliance with EWU Immunization Policy 602‑02 (MMR) required; waivers available for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs.

The expected salary upon hire is $51,989.
