Overview

Clinical Faculty of Tax (Clinical Assistant or Clinical Associate) at the School of Business, Eastern Washington University. The position is full-time, renewable, non-tenure-track, to begin September 16, 2026. Initial appointments:
Clinical Assistant for two years;
Clinical Associate for three years, with subsequent terms of two or three years as applicable. The successful candidate will teach in-person and online courses, advise students, participate in student-learning assessment, and contribute to service to the university, college, department, and the professions.

About the School

About the School of Professional Accounting: established in 2021 as a spin-out from the former School of Business. It, along with the School of Business, delivers accessible, experiential, and innovative education in the Spokane-Cheney region. Accredited by AACSB International, it offers undergraduate majors (Professional Accounting, Management, Human Resource Management, International Business, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Marketing, Information Systems & Business Analytics), an MBA, and a Master of Accounting (MPACC).

Responsibilities
  • Teach in-person and online courses to a varied student body.
  • Advise students and participate in student-learning assessment.
  • Contribute to service to the university, college, department, and the professions.
  • Develop and implement a Faculty Activity Plan by the end of the first quarter.
  • Engage in curriculum development, course development, and assessment of student learning; maintain professional credentials; build relationships with industry partners; participate in college-wide initiatives.
  • Clinical faculty may participate in research or other scholarly activities.
Teaching Workload

Teaching workload for Clinical Assistant Professors typically includes up to 45 credits across the academic year (mid-September through mid-June). Load may be reduced based on department needs and AACSB qualification status. Teaching includes duties as defined in the EWU Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) 7.8.2(a).

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
Clinical Assistant: A master’s degree in Accounting, Tax, or Business Administration from an AACSB-accredited institution with 18 graduate credit hours in accounting or tax; or a JD from an ABA-accredited law school with appropriate taxation preparation (e.g., LLM in taxation) and at least three years of recent clinical experience in the areas of expertise. Teaching experience.

Clinical Associate: A master's degree in Accounting, Tax, or Business Administration from an AACSB-accredited institution with 18 graduate credit hours in accounting or tax; or a JD from an ABA-accredited law school with appropriate taxation preparation (e.g., LLM in taxation) and at least six years of relevant teaching and professional experience; supervisory experience where relevant; evidence of excellence and innovation in teaching;

ability to teach Taxation at undergraduate and graduate levels; ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and administration; and a responsive approach to universal access needs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Licensed CPA
  • Prior collegiate-level teaching
  • Experience teaching online courses
  • Evidence of teaching forensic accounting and/or accounting ethics
  • Scholarly activity under AACSB standards (recent publications, PhD/DBA/JD)
  • Curriculum development experience
  • Engagement with the profession and field
