COMPENSATION
: $147,120 - $173,601 (depending on experience) with supplemental compensation for PhD/EdD and annual reimbursement for professional growth. Pay is annualized over 12 months.

District Information

Cheney Public Schools serves approximately 5,300 students across 11 schools in the southwest region of Spokane County. The district is expanding, with a new elementary school opening in the 2027‑2028 school year.

Planning Principal Position

The Elementary Principal will serve in a planning capacity for the opening of a new elementary school. Responsibilities include developing instructional vision, collaborating on enrollment, staffing, budgeting, participating in facility design, creating operational systems, recruiting staff, and engaging families and the broader community.

In addition, the Principal will provide administrative coverage within other district buildings and support district wide school leadership.

  • Implement effective student discipline methods consistent with state laws.
  • Support a positive school climate based on Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports.

  • Know Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and associated frameworks.
  • Participate in district‑wide resource work, grade‑level teams, community meetings, and parent groups.
  • Use technology to enhance teaching, learning, and administrative applications (Google Suite, MS Office, iObservation, Skyward).
  • Understand school law, labor‑management practices, and accommodation procedures.
  • Prepare and administer a building budget within fiscal guidelines.
  • Know categorical funding rules and best practices to support underserved students.
  • Assist with the IEP process for the Special Education Program.
  • Provide leadership for activities during and outside the school day.
  • Evaluate certified and classified staff.
  • Participate in screening, selection, training, and reassignment of school staff.
  • Strengthen business partnerships and PTO engagement.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
