Job Summary
We are currently seeking skilled and team-oriented applicants for the position of Child Development Manager – Early Head Start. This is a full-time position. EWU Head Start Child Development Managers work collaboratively with regional EHS home visitors and managers to ensure the delivery of high quality and comprehensive health and developmental services to approximately 36 – 48 pregnant women, infants and toddlers in Ferry, Stevens and Pend Oreille counties of Northeast Washington.
Key Responsibilities- Assure the delivery of high-quality health and developmental services to approximately 36-48 pregnant women, infants, and toddlers that meet federal compliance and program expectations through support, training, and practice-based coaching to Parent Child Educators and/or Lead Parent Child Educators.
- Analyze developmental screening and assessment data and guide the use of the data by Parent Child Educators (PCEs). Direct PCEs when to refer for further evaluation or services. Refer PCEs to contractors for additional resources and expertise as needed. Assist the program in compiling aggregate school readiness data for quality improvement.
- Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to develop and implement strategic approaches to addressing complex needs of individual children and their families and support recruitment and outreach across the program.

Refer PCEs to contractors for additional resources and expertise as needed. Assist the program in compiling aggregate school readiness data for quality improvement.
- Assure staff perform or obtain linguistically and age-appropriate screenings to identify concerns regarding a child’s developmental, sensory, behavioral, motor, language, social, cognitive, perceptual and emotional skills. Ensure cultural sensitivity in assessments.
- Monitor social-emotional and mental health screenings for infants, toddlers, pregnant women and parents and oversee planning to assure appropriate and timely referrals occur and track follow-up of necessary services.
- Guide staff to use findings from screenings and ongoing assessments to address identified needs and assure prompt referral to local early intervention agencies when a child has a suspected disability.
- Coordinate services for program consultation with the Infant Mental Health Consultant and Registered Dietitian.
- Provide Practice Based Coaching to program staff as defined by Head Start Performance Standards and lead program initiatives for group coaching.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; preferred in Early Childhood Education, Health, Development, or related field
- Minimum of two (2) years’ work experience in early childhood education
- Demonstrated ability to train and mentor others
- Proven track record of teamwork and ability to give and receive job-related feedback
- Demonstrated ability to use a trauma-informed approach with staff and families
- Ability to pass all required checks including health exams and background checks
- Demonstrated ability to apply a responsive and flexible approach that supports universal access
- Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field
- Team building and leadership skills
- Proficient with technology including MS Outlook, Word, and Share Point
40 hours per week, typically Monday – Friday between 8 AM – 5 PM, on-site with a collaborative office environment.
Other Program DetailsLocation:
Northeast Washington (Ferry, Stevens and Pend Oreille counties). Salary range: $60,301 – $64,798 depending on qualifications, education, and experience. Benefits include medical, dental, retirement, paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays. Required immunization policy compliance and background checks apply.
