Job Summary

Eastern Washington University’s College of Health Science and Public Health invites applications for a Clinical Assistant Faculty position starting August 16, 2026. The appointment is a 9‑month academic year semester‑long role for the 2026‑2027 academic year, reporting to the SON Director. Clinical faculty are responsible for teaching in classroom, clinical, laboratory, and simulated learning environments and may also engage in service, research, grant writing, professional presentations, mentoring student projects, and community outreach.

Responsibilities

A Faculty Activity Plan will be developed by the end of the first semester and will include teaching, research, service, and/or administrative duties as negotiated. Typical workload: 24‑30 semester credits of teaching per academic year (80‑100% of workload).

Teaching responsibilities include:

  • Teach nursing courses in classroom, clinical, laboratory, and simulated learning environments using a concept‑based approach.
  • Meet all scheduled classes.
  • Plan, organize, and inform students of course content, texts, readings, assignments, attendance regulations, and methods of evaluation including grading scales.
  • Schedule and attend office hours.
  • Turn in grades according to established deadlines.

Faculty are expected to participate in assessment of student learning and to engage in effective, concept‑based teaching whether didactic, lab, or clinical.

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in nursing.
  • Unencumbered Washington Registered Nurse license, or eligibility for licensure.
  • Current CPR certification for healthcare providers.
  • At least three years recent clinical experience in assigned clinical area.
  • Prior teaching experience in a clinical, laboratory, or simulated learning environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills with constituents including students, faculty peers, patients, and clinical partners.
  • Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and identities.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach supportive of diverse needs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Terminal degree in nursing or a health or education related field.
  • Five or more years recent clinical experience.
  • One or more years of prior experience teaching in a clinical, laboratory, or simulated learning environment.
  • Experience with Canvas or another learning management system.
  • Demonstrated experience working with or interacting with diverse communities across race, class, ability, sexuality, and gender.
Conditions of Employment

Applicants must be available to begin no later than August 16, 2026.

Successful completion of a background check is required before employment.

All new employees must comply with the EWU Immunization Policy 602‑02 and provide proof of immunity or vaccination to MMR before beginning work. Waivers are available for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs.
