Position Type: Classified, Substitute

Compensation: $18.39–$19.56 per hour depending on position. Substitute hours are paid the month following completion of work.

Other Compensation: Bus/Lunch/Recess Supervision $17.86/hour;
Instructional Para educator $18.39/hour;
Self‑Contained IP $18.98/hour;
Behavior Specialist IP $19.56/hour.

The district may award a salary enhancement for degrees: AA $0.50/hour, BA $1.00/hour, MA $1.50/hour, PhD $2.00/hour.

Benefits: After 630 hours worked, substitutes become eligible for medical, dental, vision, and basic life and AD&D insurance through SEBB.

Qualifications: High‑school diploma or equivalent; passing score (455) on state‑approved Para educator Assessment, or possess an AA degree or higher, or have earned 72 quarter/48 semester credits with college‑level courses (100 level or higher). WSP/FBI criminal history background clearance. Documentation required upon hire or during application.

NOTE: Applications will require three references; letters of recommendation preferred.

Instructional Para educator: Paraeducators assist with instruction and supervision in various settings including cafeterias, classrooms, playgrounds, crosswalks, hallways, and bus areas. They also perform clerical and office tasks support for teachers and district staff.

Instructional Para educator – Self‑Contained: Supports students in self‑contained settings providing daily living assistance and instructional support. May assist occupational and physical therapy goals and language support via assistive technology.

Instructional Para educator – Behavior Specialist: Provides behavioral support to students, collaborates with counselors and families, implements expectations and crisis procedures, and promotes behavior plans.

An instructional para educator may perform all or some of the responsibilities below:

• Support implementation of teacher‑designed instructional activities and classroom routines.
• Conduct teacher/therapist‑designed instructional experiences.
• Work with individual and small groups of students.
• Supervise, model, and teach expected behaviors across educational settings.
• Implement individual and school‑wide behavior support plans and positive interventions.
• Implement district‑adopted de‑escalation strategies.
• Foster social and language development through play activities.
• Promote students’ best interests through positive role modeling and advocacy.
• Administer assessment materials as trained or delegated.
• Assist in preparation of instructional materials and perform clerical duties.
• Respond to student needs while maintaining confidentiality.
• May administer medications pursuant to Board policy.
• Assist with care and hygiene needs as required.
• Monitor highly structured environments.
• Coordinate transportation for students after ASD.
• Perform first aid.

• Implement teacher‑directed programs one‑to‑one or small group.
• Lead or support de‑escalation/restraint procedures.
• Assist with diet, feeding, personal care, hygiene, and mobility.
• Assist with learning tasks aligned to IEP goals.
