Compensation: $59,028-$115,278 depending on prior school district experience;
Pay is annualized over 12 months (if hired after start of school year, spread over remaining months of fiscal year (Sept-Aug))

If utilizing flexible hours/schedule, position hours must generate at least 630 work hours in the current school year for the following to apply:

Qualifications:

Valid Washington State Teacher Certificate;
Washington State ESA School Counselor Certificate; or Washington State ESA School Social Worker Certificate. Valid Washington State Driver's License and personal transportation; WSP/FBI criminal history background clearance

General Description:

The Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) provides leadership, coordination, consultation, and direct support to improve student outcomes through collaboration with students, families, staff, and community partners. This position works to strengthen systems of support, remove barriers to learning, and promote equitable access to academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and community resources. The TOSA serves as a collaborative problem-solver, coach, and advocate while supporting district initiatives and fostering positive learning environments for all students.

General Responsibilities:

The Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) works collaboratively with students, families, staff, administrators, and community partners, to collaboratively design, implement, and monitor systems of support that promote student success, equitable access, and positive learning environments. This position serves as a resource, facilitator, and problem-solver while supporting continuous improvement, data-informed decision making, and effective implementation of district initiatives.

Essential Functions:

An employee hired for this assignment may perform all or some of the responsibilities defined below:

• Actively engage in district and building Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).
• Collaborate with principals to optimize the use of building resources, materials, and equipment.
• Coordinate activities to support positive student attendance
• Coordinate referrals to community services and resources with families and service providers
• Provide family engagement services between the school and community
• Demonstrate an understanding of student & family advocacy
• Engage in student-centered decision making
• Conduct individual student academic planning and goal setting
• Provide professional assistance and support to a single student and/or small group of students during times of transition, heightened stress, critical change, or other situations impeding student success
• Assist in developing positive support plans and behavioral intervention plans
• Collaborate with others in developing social, academic, and/or functional interventions and supports for students
• Recognize and respond to student mental health needs and assist students and families seeking resources
• Provide referrals for long-term support and to appropriate social service agencies based on student needs
