Schedule:

7 hours/day and start/end times vary by building (between 7:30 a.m.

-4:00 p.m.);
Monday-Friday;
School year + additional days

Supervisor:
Building Principal(s)

Position Type:
Certificated, Continuing

The district reserves the option to return to this pool for non-continuing, leave replacement positions. Candidates will be notified if they are being contacted regarding a non-continuing position.

Compensation: $59,028-$115,278/year depending on prior school district experience;
Pay is annualized over 12 months (if hired after start of school year, spread over remaining months of fiscal year (Sept-Aug))

Professional Development and Supply Allocation Funds: The District will provide annually $700 per FTE employee for reimbursement of
1) Classes, conferences and/or workshops;
2) Purchase of work related materials (no gift cards may be purchased with these funds for any reason);
3) Certification Support

New Certified Staff Funds:
The District will provide a one-time $400 per FTE reimbursement to new employees with one year or less previous teaching experience (includes substitute time) to support initial classroom setup and supply needs. Does not apply to partial year leave replacement contracts.

If utilizing flexible hours/schedule, position hours must generate at least 630 work hours in the current school year for the following to apply:

Qualifications:

Valid Washington State Teacher Certificate with music endorsement;
Valid Washington State Driver's License; WSP/FBI criminal history background clearance

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Experienced choral/instrumental music director with school background preferred.
  • Demonstrated clarity of expression through oral and written communication.
  • Demonstrated effective organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership in music education.
  • Actively participate in district and building Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).
  • Strong background in all types of musical literature, including solo/ensemble.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with parents and to clearly articulate and promote school programs and state standards.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of performance assessment.
  • Demonstrated teaching competence in both general and instrumental music; training in both general and instrumental strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach district general music curriculum to students kindergarten to grade 5.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach vocal music and instrumental skills to grade 5, including band and strings.
  • Demonstrated background in effective instructional strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability or willingness to operate computer management system.
  • Participate in developing building specialist schedules including alternative schedules during conferencing periods.
  • Plan a balanced music program and organized daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal, and instruction can be accomplished in the allotted time.
  • Provide individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
  • Utilize repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary, that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of students.
  • Control the storage and use of school-owned property, make minor adjustments and request repairs as required.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and musical performances.
  • Evaluate each student's music growth and performance; assess each individual's contribution to the performance of the group.
  • Plan, rehearse, and direct students in up to seven musical programs for school and community annually.
