Workshop Fitter – CHEPSTOW
Salary: G1: £20.41 / hr | G2: £18.19 / hr
Hours: 07:00 – 16:00;
Mon‑Fri + overtime, Holidays.
Days: 20 days + statutory bank holidays.
Benefits: Pension (3% employer)
Job Type: Full time, Permanent.
A great opportunity to work for one of the country’s leading mobile plant suppliers in the minerals and aggregate sector, which operates one of the most technologically advanced, environmentally friendly and newest fleets within Europe.
The role involves maintaining the company’s front‑line and ancillary machine fleet at Head Office workshops in Caldicot, working on premium equipment brands such as Volvo, Caterpillar and Komatsu.
Job Skills / Requirements- 5+ years of relevant experience (post apprenticeship) in the repair and maintenance of heavy construction plant (bulldozers, dump trucks, excavators, graders, loading shovels, etc.)
- NVQ or equivalent in engineering, mechanical, hydraulics, pneumatics and electronics
- Experience in maintaining heavy quarry / mining / construction equipment
- Knowledge and experience of working with Tier4 and 5 engines, regen and adblue systems, drive lines, hydraulics & electrical systems
- Experience and knowledge of diagnostic equipment and procedures, including use of laptops for fault finding / diagnostics (preferred but not essential)
- Elevated level of health & safety knowledge and willingness to attend training courses
- Computer literate with tablet‑based maintenance and safety systems
- Quick learner, self‑motivated and able to work on own initiative as part of a workshop team
- Repair heavy‑duty quarrying equipment – excavators, articulated haulers, wheel loaders, bulldozers – from industry‑leading brands such as Volvo and Caterpillar to a high standard
- Carry out inspections and preparation of machines for hire or sale (check‑ins/outs, fitting buckets or attachments, reversing cameras, radars, etc.)
- Ability to carry out major overhauls on engines, transmissions, axles, hydraulics, etc.
- Diagnose and problem‑solve mechanical, hydraulic or electrical issues on machines
- Work on own initiative and as part of a team
- Ensure accurate and punctual completion of systems and paperwork
- Carry out all work in line with the company's core health, safety and environmental policies and safe working practices
- Highlight to management where additional works may be required
