- Review zoning and redevelopment proposals
- Conduct meetings to discuss new and existing development projects with private landowners and development clients
- Work alongside planning, engineering and landscape architecture staff to review development proposals and provide comments and massing alternatives as necessary
- Organize and prepare written and graphic materials for internal and public presentations
- Prepare various reports, including graphic, statistical, and written representations
- Lead vision planning and neighborhood planning projects including community engagement activities
- Develop physical concepts utilizing 3D software such as Sketch Up based on community input and market factors
- Coordinate and review redevelopment activities with public agencies and developers
- Test-fit potential development sites based on zoning and regulatory requirements
- Research and provide alternatives for improvements in planning and design, supported as necessary by drawings, diagrams, and numerical analysis
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design or Urban Planning or a related field is required. A Master’s Degree in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or Urban Planning with a focus on Urban Design is preferred. Possession of a current and valid credential as a Certified Planner issued by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) may be substituted for the educational requirement.
- Ability to review development proposals and provide critical comments and potential alternatives.
- Ability to analyze a site for potential massing and unit count projections based on the existing zoning. Ability to propose zoning alternatives to meet desired outcomes.
- Ability to work closely in a team environment
- Ability to analyze and systematically compile technical and statistical information to prepare technical reports
- Ability to present, discuss, and execute innovative ideas
- Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms, interpret planning, zoning, and local ordinances to officials and the public while conducting public presentations
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office – PowerPoint, Word, and Excel, Adobe Creative suite, 3D massing software and GIS software.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, public officials, and the public.
- General interest and knowledge of urban design and planning theory, planning and environmental law, and private and public development processes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong willingness, curiosity, and enthusiasm to learn.
- Detail-oriented with a strong command of design principles.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff members and supervisors across multiple departments.
- Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities, manage time effectively and meet deadline and deliverable expectations in a hybrid work environment.
Required License:
Possession or ability to possess AICP, AIA, RLA or PP is preferred
Required Experience:
2-5 years of experience. Master’s Degree can be substituted for experience.
Design portfolios will be requested.
