Job Description
Job Summary The primary focus will be to assist us in our mission to transform People and Places through the power of the Gospel by overseeing, leading, and facilitating a comprehensive ministry to youth and their families. Oversight Works closely with Lead Pastor for mentorship and to ensure that duties and responsibilities are being fulfilled. Supervises Children's Ministry Director, Youth Ministry Volunteers and Nursery Coordinator.
Special Requirements and Characteristics
- Have a personal and vital relationship with the Triune God in Christ Jesus.
- Have a vision for the work of Christ in and through CPC in Cherry Hill and the surrounding communities.
- Be a man of personal integrity who demonstrates godliness and grace in all his personal relationships.
- Have heart for bringing the lost to Christ.
- Hold a Master of Divinity or equivalent from an accredited Reformed seminary.
- Be ordained or ordainable as a Teaching Elder in the Presbyterian Church in America.
- Pass a criminal background check. Primary Duties: I. Youth Ministry Leadership - 60% of time.
A. Organizational - 15% of time
- Act as communicator and guardian of the CPC youth and family ministry vision.
- Advise and lead day-to-day ministry planning and programming for youth and their families.
- In cooperation with Children's Ministry Director prayerfully choose and plan children's and youth Sunday School Curriculum.
- Facilitate communication with parents and youth in the implementation of a clear ministry plan, including retreats, camps, and conferences.
- Build leaders by recruiting and training adult volunteers and students to utilize God-given gifts in service to the youth and family ministry.
- Organize mission and ministry opportunities for service and outreach locally, regionally, and internationally.
- Oversee all safety and protection policies for children and youth ministries.
B. Discipleship and Outreach - 45% of time.
- Develop and implement a threefold youth ministry strategy that is in line with CPC's mission and values: o Gospel (God's Word):
Teaches and models CPC youth a sincere love for Scripture with goal of Christian maturity by informing the mind and inflaming the heart. o People (Gospel Community):
Teaches and models CPC youth how to live out the teachings of Scripture in an authentic community marked by service, sacrifice, honesty, grace and forgiveness. o Places (God's World):
Teaches and models CPC youth how to love, serve, and communicate the gospel in their homes, schools, and spheres of influence and to have a "Great Commission" and "Great Commandments" lifestyle so they develop an engaging witness and a sincere love for their neighbor.
- Cultivate gospel-centered community by: o Leading weekly large-group Bible study and fellowship. o Leading/Facilitating regular small groups for discipleship and spiritual formation. o One-to-one interactions with the goal of maturing the youth in their identity in Christ and His church. II. III. Family Pastoral Leadership - 30% of time
- Serve as the primary pastor for family ministries (birth through college), with a focus on equipping parents as the primary spiritual shepherds of their children.
- Develop strong intentional relationships with parents, regularly communicating vision, encouragement and resources for discipleship of their children.
- Work closely with the Children's Ministry Director to coordinate ministry efforts across all family ministry areas.
- Lead one or more small discipleship groups of fathers for the purpose of mutual growth in Christ and development of leaders in their families and in the church.
- Provide spiritual counsel, guidance, and help to families and their youth as needed, referring to appropriate resources and expertise when warranted.
- Initiate relationships with and pursue fringe youth and families, developing opportunities for new families to enter the life and ministry of CPC. Broader Congregational Ministry - 10% of time
- Teach an Adult Sunday School class and/or lead a Community Group.
- Preach, lead liturgy and administer the sacraments as assigned by the Lead Pastor.
- Officiate or assist with weddings and funerals when given the opportunity.
- Perform other duties as required in support of the church's mission.
- Assist Lead Pastor in visitation and general pastoral care when needed.
- Other duties as assigned by the Lead Pastor.
