DescriptionLibrary/Media Specialist
Qualifications- Librarian shall be certified and licensed in accordance with state law and the regulations of the Mississippi Department of Education. Such licensure and transcript of credits shall be on file in the office of the Superintendent of Education.
- In accordance with Mississippi Code S37-9-17, all personnel employed by the public school system shall be required to pass a criminal background check and a current child abuse registry check.

Job GoalTo provide all students with an enriched library environment containing a wide variety of materials that will invite intellectual growth, and to aid all students in acquiring the skills needed to take full advantage of media center resources.
Essential FunctionsSuch duties and responsibilities as may be assigned, including but not limited to:
- To operate and supervise the media center to which assigned.
- To evaluate, select and requisition new media center materials.
- To assist teachers in the selection of books and other instructional materials, and to make media center materials available to supplement the instructional program.
- To inform teachers and other staff members concerning new materials the media center acquires.
- To maintain a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging all media center materials and to instruct teachers and students on use of the system.
- To arrange for interlibrary loan of materials of interest or use to teachers.
- To work with teachers in planning those assignments likely to lead to extended use of media center resources.
- To promote appropriate conduct of students using media center facilities.
- To help students develop habits of independent reference work and to develop skill in the use of reference materials in relation to planned assignments.
- To present and discuss materials with a class studying a particular topic, on the invitation of the teacher.
- To participate in curriculum meetings.
- To counsel with and give reading guidance to students who have special reading problems or unusual intellectual interests.
- To arrange frequently changing book-related displays and exhibits likely to interest the media center’s patrons.
- To prepare and administer the media center budget.
- To supervise media center aides in the performance of their duties.
- To weed obsolete and worn materials from the collections.
- To supervise the clerical routines necessary for the smooth operation of the media center.
- Any other duties within the scope of this job description as assigned by the Principal, Assistant Principal, and/or Director.
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal, Superintendent and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Terms of Employment187 days annually with salary in accordance with the Administrative Salary Schedule as approved by the Harrison County School District.
