Cherry Hill Township is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Tax Collector. The successful candidate will work alongside the current Tax Collector through her retirement on or around January 1, 2027, to ensure a smooth transition of responsibilities.
SummaryCherry Hill Township operates on a fiscal-year schedule, therefore, qualified candidates must possess a valid Fiscal-Year Certified Tax Collector License prior to their appointment as Tax Collector and have a minimum of five (5) years of experience as a Certified Tax Collector, preferably in a larger municipality.

Essential Functions- Preparation and organization of bills to be mailed as follows: approximately 27,000 tax line items, and approximately 25,000 residential sewer line items. This entails the processing of the two (2) state fiscal-year billing calculations, ordering of bills and envelopes, timing of print schedules, and requesting postage.
- Preparing and distributing monthly collections reports to the Mayor, Council and other municipal officials.
- Maintaining fiscal-year spreadsheets for taxes, sewer, and municipal held liens.
- Processing and mailing delinquent notices (quarterly), tax sale notices (yearly), and holding the live “Accelerated Tax Sale” (prior to June 30 year-end).
- Processing allowances and disallowances for senior citizen and veteran deductions.
- Overseeing the preparation of the official tax searches.
- Reconciling bank statements and online payment transactions.
- Preparing resolutions for Township Council consideration.
- Processing adjustments resulting from tax appeals.
- Investigating and processing refunds and transfer credits for over payments.
- Preparing and filing required documentation for bankruptcies.
- Maintaining property maintenance liens and providing monthly reports to the CFO.
- Maintaining listing of premium bids and performing annual reconciliations with the CFO.
- Processing returned checks and related follow-up actions.
- Attending meetings as required.
- Supervising the Division of Tax Collections staff and providing exceptional customer service to residents and stakeholders.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant professional experience.
- Current and valid certificate from the State of New Jersey, Department of Community Affairs as a “Certified Tax Collector”.
- Continuing education credits (15) every two years to maintain and renew the certificate as a Certified Tax Collector.
- Previous work as a Certified Tax Collector, preferably from a large fiscal-year community with knowledge of Edmunds tax and utility software.
- Excellent math skills with the ability to handle large amounts of cash accurately.
- Excellent listening skills with the ability to handle inquiries/complaints tactfully and effectively.
- Detail oriented with a keen eye for accuracy.
- Valid NJ Driver’s License.
- New Jersey residency required pursuant to NJSA 54:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70).
The successful candidate will serve as a Deputy Tax Collector until the retirement of the current Tax Collector.
Salary Range: $115,000 to $135,000, commensurate with experience.
