Data Platform Engineer – Building the foundation for our data driven future

At Odfjell Technology, the IT department is a key driver of global collaboration, secure operations and digital innovation. We deliver a robust and modern IT infrastructure that connects Odfjell Drilling, Odfjell Technology and Odfjell Oceanwind, supporting around 4,500 users in more than 15+ countries, 9 offshore rigs and interfaces with customer and supplier networks.

Data is at the core of our strategic vision. For us, a modern data platform is about more than just storage; it is the engine that enables intelligent decision making, advanced analytics, and future innovation. As our new Data Platform Engineer, you will play a central role in evolving our enterprise data ecosystem. You will be instrumental in building and operating robust data solutions on Databricks and the Azure data platform, ensuring high availability, performance, and scalability.

Working closely with our Integration Architect and other platform teams, you will design secure data flows, implement quality controls, and help standardize services that empower our business intelligence initiatives. We are looking for someone who is passionate about modern data frameworks, distributed processing, and ensuring top tier data governance.

Qualification Requirements
  • – Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in IT, data engineering, or a related field
  • – Strong experience with cloud data platforms, specifically Azure Data Platform and Databricks
  • – Experience with data engineering, ETL/ELT processes, and building data pipelines
  • – Solid understanding of data architecture, data modelling, and data governance
  • – Experience with IaC, CI/CD, and Dev Ops/Data Ops practices applied to data platforms
  • – Comfortable with modern declarative data engineering approaches and open standards (e.g. dbt, Dagster, Spark Declarative Pipelines, data load tool), including an understanding of how distributed engines like Spark execute underneath
  • – Knowledge of security, access control, and data protection within cloud environments
  • – Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Norwegian and English
  • – Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across technical teams
Main Responsibilities
  • – Develop, maintain, and evolve data pipelines and enterprise data platform services
  • – Build and operate scalable, reliable, and cost-efficient solutions on Databricks and Azure
  • – Implement data ingestion, transformation, and storage mechanisms
  • – Ensure high availability, performance, and scalability of the data platform
  • – Collaborate with the Integration Architect and platform teams on data flows and architecture decisions
  • – Implement monitoring and data quality controls to support analytics and business intelligence use cases
  • – Ensure secure handling of data and strict compliance with governance and security standards
  • – Contribute to continuous improvement, standardization, and the reuse of data services
