Location:

Chesapeake, VA

Work hours:

Monday – Friday 8 am – 5 pm. Employees may be required to work overtime or respond to emergencies.

Pay grade: GE03. Pay basis:
Semi‑Monthly. Advertised salary: $36,734 annually (starting pay based on qualifications and experience).

Join our team as a Benefits Program Aide I and make a meaningful impact by supporting individuals and families applying for financial, medical, and nutritional assistance through government programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist applicants in completing required forms and gathering documentation.
  • Screen applications, verify information, and prepare eligible cases for transfer.
  • Update client records, monitor payments, and track contract details.
  • Respond to phone inquiries related to public assistance and services.
  • Manage case files by purging, logging, transferring, and closing as needed.
  • Coordinate daycare paperwork and housing support communication.
  • Print green cards, prepare food baskets, and handle appeal processes.
  • Perform routine clerical duties including data entry, filing, mail processing, and faxing.
  • Participate in team meetings and training sessions.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum six months of related full‑time equivalent experience in customer service or general clerical work involving public contact.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • Comfort working independently within established guidelines.
  • Prior clerical or administrative experience is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with high‑volume face‑to‑face customer service.
  • Computer skills: utilization of various software, creation of spreadsheets and word processing documents.
  • Experience working with a multicultural and socio‑economic diverse clientele.
  • Comprehension and execution of complex policies, procedures, and work rules.
  • Ability to manage workload independently and meet performance standards.
