Position: Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) - Chesapeake, VA
Step into a rewarding opportunity supporting young learners as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist in a vibrant school environment near Chesapeake, VA. This contract role runs from ASAP through mid-June 2026 and provides the chance to make a meaningful difference for elementary students, all conveniently based within the district center. You'll work full-time, 35 hours each week, focusing on a small, manageable caseload of just eight students from kindergarten through fifth grade.

Key

Qualifications:
  • Certification in Deaf/Hard of Hearing education or a related field
  • Experience with elementary-aged students (K-5 preferred)
  • Strong skills in developing, adapting, and delivering specialized instruction to meet individual communication and educational needs
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) or other communication modalities used by D/HH students
  • Knowledge of IEP development and implementation
  • Collaborative attitude with teachers, staff, and families
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct instruction and support for D/HH students, tailoring approaches to meet each child's unique strengths and needs
  • Develop and maintain Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) in partnership with the IEP team
  • Consult with classroom teachers to adapt curriculum and create accessible learning environments
  • Monitor and document student progress, sharing updates with families and staff
  • Advocate for inclusive practices and access to assistive technology
  • Foster positive, supportive relationships to encourage growth and confidence
