GENERAL PURPOSE
Performs difficult professional work providing teaching and learning services to students in general instruction or in a specialized subject or assigned group of subjects, motivating students to develop skill in assigned subject matters; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision. Limited supervision may be exercised over assigned paraprofessionals.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Teaching in a K12 virtual instructional program and online class environment favorable to learning;
- Teaching a broad range of subjects or specialized subject matter(s);
- Teaching special needs students;
- Motivating all students to achieve maximum potential;
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials suitable to the online environment;
- Implements appropriate multimedia and digital content relevant to the online environment;
- Develops individual programs for special needs students taking fully online courses;
- Translates Chesapeake Public Schools curriculum into online learning experiences;
- Promotes integration of the 5 C's competencies, digital citizenship, and STEAM in an online environment;
- Encourages students to think independently, develop, and express original ideas;
- Understands best practices for delivering virtual instruction to elementary, middle, or high school students;
- Able to apply the principles of instructional design to an online course.
- Instructs students in area(s) of specialization and subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district;
- Adapts teaching materials and methods to develop relevant sequential assignments that guide and challenge students;
- Develops standards for critical analysis through online group discussions;
- Assesses and evaluates needs of students;
- Provides timely and detailed feedback to students in the learning management system, online gradebook, email, and other approved communication tools;
- Provides instruction and online student support in individual or group sessions;
- Establishes and maintains standards of behavior appropriate for an online classroom;
- Formulates and implements behavior modification programs for special needs students;
- Administers standardized state and local assessments in accordance with established procedures;
- Evaluates student progress, maintains appropriate records, and prepares progress reports;
- Communicates with students, school counselors, and parents through email, telephone calls, conferences, and other means;
- Clearly articulates deadlines, schedules, and procedures to students and parents;
- Assists students and parents with basic technical support requests relating to the learning management system;
- Maintains professional competence through in-service training, PLC membership, and self-selected continuing education opportunities;
- Participates in curriculum development programs, faculty committees, and student activity sponsorship as required;
- Utilizes available features of the learning management system as well as other approved instructional and administrative technologies,
- Assist in providing information to students, parents, and school personnel about course offerings in the Academy;
- Must have reliable Internet access at home and be able to answer student/parent questions within 24 hours;
