Position Overview
–We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated intern with knowledge and skills related to visual studies and art history.

Duration

Spring 2026 (Jan.–April) / Fall 2026 (Aug. –Nov.)

Hours
:

Flexible work schedule within hours of operation (Monday–Friday 11:00am–7:00pm). Interns will commit from 9 to 11 hours per week for 13 weeks for a total of 150 hours.

$15 per hour for qualified majors through the Mellon Foundation Humanities Internship Studio at Old Dominion University(ODU Students only)

Intern must be an enrolled undergraduate visual studies and/or art history student at Old Dominion University

• Offer hands-on instruction to students and gauge application of skills using materials
• Assist with digital design work on selected applications
• Select and prepare large quantities of materials including paint, canvas, and
• substrate boards for projects
• Collaborate in design, execution, and installation of artwork for the public
• Create student assessments and prep for monthly data uploads
• Attend and participate in company education meetings and trainings
• Scale up and paint large scale collaborative works when possible
• Organize, sort, and sanitize materials and classroom/workshop space

• Ability to communicate instructions and model skills using various art mediums
• Ability to work with students in a trauma-informed space
• Valid driver’s license with no more than three minor moving violations in the pastthree years

• Exposure to a diverse array of techniques for drawing, illustration, crafts and painting
• Learn best practices in maintaining a classroom/workshop style environment
• Learn and apply socioemotional strategies for classroom management and student
