Shipboard Leader/Waterfront Specialist
R&P Technologies is looking for a proven shipboard leader/waterfront specialist with technical skills to lead team members during post delivery availabilities and repair opportunities supporting multiple ship classes. Provide mentorship and training to Technician Level III, II and I personnel. Experience with inner workings of shipyards (BAE, NASSCO, HII) is preferred. Responsible for ensuring all electrical production meets the expectations of the Electrical Superintendent and customers.
Ensure that all work performed is in accordance with ship specification requirements while complying with all OSHA, NAVSEA, ABS, local shipyard, and R&P safety policies and procedures. Oversees the execution of shipboard installations to include, but not limited to, electrical equipment, fiber optics, lighting, announcing, RF antennas, audio/video, interior communications and alarms, and network systems. They will demonstrate and maintain effective leadership qualities and provide all guidance required by junior personnel to accomplish their tasking.
Work with their personnel to deconflict issues that may arise during task completion and in office periods.
- Oversee the daily production plans identified by the Electrical Superintendent and customer's requirements.
- Assist shipboard task leads in shipboard installations and troubleshooting electrical systems to identify hazards and malfunctions and repair/replace damaged equipment when needed.
- Perform operational testing of affected systems utilizing various electrical test equipment.
- Responsible for ensuring that all personnel adhere to the company's QMS and Safety programs for assigned tasking.
- Assist shipboard leads in the creation and maintenance of QA binders, POA&Ms, Test and Inspection Plans (TIPs) and daily/weekly/monthly reports to customers and Operations Managers.
- Coordinate with other Lead Technicians, Operations Managers, Superintendents and subcontractors for personnel assignments and job completion across multiple tasks.
- Assist shipboard leads with material research, purchase requests, job planning and material receipt and inspection.
- Assist in maintaining the structure of S-Drive project/production folders.
- This includes scanning and uploading of QA and shipboard documents to the assigned folder for tasks assigned to their personnel.
- Provide training for assigned personnel. To include trainings with connector building, filling out QA forms, organization, and other trainings deemed applicable for the growth of assigned personnel.
- Assist with planning activities to promote team building and employee growth and recognition.
- Assist with maintaining employee records (i.e., training records, charge code authorizations and job descriptions).
- Assist with input for biannual evaluations for assigned personnel on projects.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, and Adobe Acrobat DC.
- Must be a Marine Electrician with a minimum of 9-14 years relevant experience working in ship repair onboard US Navy ships (technical education may be substituted for a portion of the experience requirement)
- Must have experience and multi-pin copper connector certification of cables per Navy Standard Item 009-73 (MIL-STD-2003-5)
- Cableway Certification NAVSEA Standard Item 009-73 & MIL-STD-2003-4A.
- Active Fiber certification is a plus, not required.
- Basic knowledge of fiber optics preferred.
- Must be familiar with NAVY Standard Items
- Ability to read, understand and follow customer work item requirements, drawings, blueprints and wiring diagrams.
- Individual must have a keen attention to detail and be quality metric driven
- Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret security clearance (current active Secret clearance is a plus).
- Ability to obtain and maintain Navy DBIDS or CAC card credentials
- Fluency in English (verbal and written)
- Successful completion of Navy "A" School ("C" School is a plus) or successful completion of a Shipyard or commercial Electrical apprenticeship program (recognized shipyard apprentice graduates are a plus).
- Shipyard competent person certification a plus
- Proven experience as an electrician
- Experience in marine electrical systems
- Prior experience supervising other personnel
- Demonstrable ability to use electrical and hand tools (e.g. wire strippers, voltmeter, various test equipment etc.)
- Demonstrate ability to build MIL-SPEC connectors of various types and sizes using both soldering and crimping techniques
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving ability
- Excellent physical condition with the ability to lift 50 pounds on your own
- Willingness to travel to various locations in support of ship maintenance availabilities
- Flexibility with regards to scheduling and planned support due to constant Navy movement
- Thorough knowledge of safety procedures and guidelines
