Position: AEGIS SPY-1 Radar Transmitter Field Engineer

Overview

US-VA-CHESAPEAKE-305 ~ 1100 International Plz ~ BLDG 305
Remote work with extensive travel required. Field Engineering role supporting the AEGIS Program on U.S. Navy ships and related sites. Active and transferable U.S. government-issued security clearance is required prior to start date; U.S. citizenship is required for clearance eligibility.

What You Will Do
  • Travel to various Naval shipyards, CONUS and OCONUS, as required to support ORDALT installations and technical assistance.
  • Accept temporary assignments involving at-sea support aboard U.S. Navy ships in support of AEGIS systems.
  • Operate, maintain, align, troubleshoot, and repair SPY-1 Radar Transmitter Equipment and MK99 Fire Control Systems (FCS) aboard AEGIS-class ships, land sites, or other designated locations using advanced test equipment.
  • Participate in planning and execution phases of shipboard equipment installations.
  • Analyze equipment failures to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Perform radar system modifications, including ORDAs (ORDALT) modifications and CINs.
  • Make backplane and chassis wiring modifications and mechanical modifications to SPY radar and FCS hardware.
  • Prepare and submit detailed reports on equipment discrepancies with recommended solutions.
  • Provide guidance and hands-on training to Navy technicians on SPY radar and MK99 FCS.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs and maintain accurate performance and maintenance records.
  • Extensive travel, including CONUS, OCONUS, and at-sea assignments.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and perform physically demanding tasks onboard Navy vessels.
Qualifications You Must Have
  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree with 0 years’ experience.
  • Active and transferable U.S. government-issued security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required for clearance eligibility.
  • Formal training in Basic Electronics & Electricity, including RF, digital, and analog principles.
  • Minimum six years of experience with the AEGIS Weapon System.
  • Completion of Aegis “C” School for AEGIS SPY-1 Transmitter and for AEGIS FCS Transmitters.
  • Experience interpreting electrical and mechanical schematics; ability to diagnose and repair electronics, radar systems, tools, test equipment, and cooling systems.
Qualifications We Prefer
  • Strong technical writing skills for AEGIS documentation and issue reporting.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for collaboration with peers, leadership, and military personnel.
  • Direct experience with AEGIS SPY-1 transmitter or MK99 FCS.
  • Knowledge of RF cable construction and repair; familiarity with electrical multi-pin connectors and maintenance.
  • Understanding of RF principles, analog/digital circuitry, and troubleshooting across domains.
  • Proficiency with wire wrap, soldering, and use of specialized tools.
  • Experience operating and troubleshooting with Operational Readiness Test Systems (ORTS).
  • Familiarity with U.S. Navy shipboard safety standards and shipyard operations.
  • Experience working in shipyards or dry-dock environments; prior international or overseas assignments.
  • Electronics Technician Certification or equivalent military/technical school credential.
  • Ability to communicate professionally across multiple teams and organizations.

  • Salary range: 68,900 USD – 131,100 USD (pay is a good-faith estimate and varies by experience, role, location, and qualifications).

  • Potential eligibility for annual incentive programs based on role and performance.
