American Engineering is currently looking for a Land Survey Technician to work with our Survey Division located in Chesapeake, Virginia
About the Role:The applicant will work in conjunction with a Professional Land Surveyor to perform a wide variety of survey related tasks in an office setting. Primary duties will involve utilizing CAD software to create and manage survey-related drawings, plats, and technical documents, process field data, perform calculations, and produce accurate deliverables for surveying and engineering projects. This role requires strong organizational and communication skills, along with a good understanding of surveying techniques and equipment.
Land Survey Technician will be capable of handling multiple projects while working effectively with Engineering and Surveying team members.
- Creating and modifying survey drawings, plats, and other technical documents using AutoCAD, Carlson Survey and/ or Civil 3D efficiently and accurately.
- Ensure field crews efficiently execute survey tasks, providing guidance and direction as needed
- Processing field survey data from data collectors and GPS receivers, performing computations, and generating digital terrain models.
- Researching and analyzing property records, preparing legal descriptions, and other relevant tasks.
- Preparation of a wide variety of products, such as topographic surveys, ALTA/NSPS surveys, subdivision and condominium plats, Utility exhibits, Construction Record Drawings, residential site plans and other survey and engineering documents
- Working closely with surveyors, engineers, and field crews to ensure project accuracy and efficiency.
- Prepare stakeout plans, Cut Sheets and point files for construction layout projects
- Reviewing and verifying the accuracy and completeness of survey drawings and data
- Proficiency in CAD Software:
Strong skills in AutoCAD, Carlson Survey, Civil 3D, or similar CAD software. Successful candidate will be required to have a minimum of 5 years experience as a CAD/ Land Survey Technician - Survey Knowledge:
Understanding of surveying principles, field procedures, and equipment. - Analytical

Ability to perform calculations, analyze data, and solve technical problems. - Communication
Skills:
Ability to communicate effectively with surveyors, engineers, and field crews. - Attention to Detail:
Accuracy and precision in all tasks are crucial. - Education:
An associate's degree in a survey-related field or formal CAD training is preferred. High school diploma or GED and a minimum of 5 years in Land Surveying role. - Ability to work extended hours including Saturdays and ability for potential travel out of town, possibly for a week at a time.
- Understanding of various surveying techniques, including boundary, topographic, and ALTA/NSPS surveys
- Must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to pass drug testing may be required.
