Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage numerous rail grinding and rail milling teams, including approving expenses, approving payroll, scheduling rotations, and participating in hiring new team members.
- Identify rail surface defects such as spalling, corrugation, and engine burns, and understand the role of track geometry and substructure in the development of surface conditions.
- Assess and survey rail condition and develop long‑term rail treatment plans.
- Provide input to the development of the annual budget and oversee cost control for the rail grinding and milling programs.
- Explain the difference between rail grinding and rail milling and identify when each operation should be performed.
- Possess basic knowledge of rail grinding and milling operations, including operational set‑up (grinders, watch trucks, final patrol), complete on‑site inspections and audits of equipment, and acquire skills to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot rail grinding and milling equipment.
- 5–7 years of experience in a railway engineering department.
- Familiarity with grinding and milling practices and procedures common to the industry.
- Coordinating and influencing skills; strong communicator across multiple functions.
- Ability to be on call regularly outside normal business hours and workdays.
- Proficiency with a computer (Microsoft Office).
- Must have or be able to obtain a passport.
$80,000 - $120,000 a year
Travel
Schedule:
3 weeks in field / 1 week home
