Position: Subject Matter Expert II / Systems Engineer

Job Title and Location

Subject Matter Expert (HF/UHF communication equipment) – National/IWCISEA support as defined by NIWC-LANT Atlantic In Service Engineering Agency ISEA. Role includes on-site depot-level support, system operation, configuration, preventative maintenance, overhaul, repair, and assistance with configuration management. Shipboard technical support may be required.

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support to diagnose, repair, and overhaul a variety of communication equipment and ancillaries.
  • Operate, maintain, repair, and overhaul US Navy communications equipment.
  • Support repair alignment and maintenance.
  • Demonstrate strong customer service skills when interfacing with prime customers and industry partners.
  • Support NIWC for Litoral Combat Ships Exterior communication line of sight and SATCOM.
  • Travel to CONUS/OCONUS locations to support ISEA requirements; work shipboard to support ISEA communication requirements as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Familiarity with Navy communications and switching.
  • Ability to operate, troubleshoot, and repair US Navy radio systems for HF/UHF, focusing on Digital Modular Radio (DMR) and ARC-210 family.
  • Provide system engineering assistance for lifecycle sustainment and modernization.
  • Familiarity with test instruments and their application to communications systems.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Job Requirements
  • Mandatory:
  • U.S. Citizen; SECRET Security Clearance.
  • High School Diploma.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Experience with radio voice and data communication equipment.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in Navy or Coast Guard communications systems.
  • Willingness to travel CONUS/OCONUS; to work extended hours including weekends and holidays.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment background check and pre-hire drug test.
  • Preferred:
  • Prior military training (A-school, C-school) and technical training for HF/UHF; OJT or other.
  • Expertise in repair, alignment, overhaul, sustainment, and modernization of DMR and ARC-210 radio systems.
  • Factory training certification for DMR and ARC-210.
  • Background in shipboard communications with knowledge of systems such as DMR, AN/URC-series, TVS, BAS/SAS, and related antenna and SATCOM equipment.
Working and Physical Conditions
  • Ability to work in low-lit areas for extended periods.
  • This role is largely sedentary.
