Summary

This position is located in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Ocean Service (NOS), National Geodetic Survey (NGS), with one vacancy in Chesapeake, VA.

Major Duties
  • As a Supervisory Cartographer, you will perform the following duties:
    Serve as Chief of the Field Operations Branch, Observation and Analysis Division, NGS.
  • Support the full suite of field activities required to maintain surveying operations for the National Geodetic Survey (NGS) and for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Aeronautical Survey Program (ASP).
  • Maintain NGS core capabilities in field surveying by incorporating new technology and methods and will be responsible for developing and implementing NGS geodetic field procedures and the execution of surveys.
  • Provide both technical and administrative supervision over the primary field unit conducting special projects in support of V‑Datum, Lidar, and shoreline mapping projects.
  • Plan and schedule ongoing production-oriented work on a quarterly and annual basis, or direct assignments of similar duration.
  • Adjust staffing levels or work procedures within the organizational unit(s) to accommodate resource allocation decisions made at higher levels of the division.
  • Oversee quality control of ASP projects which involves data and methodology verification of surveys conducted by third parties.
  • Provide a full range supervisory authority including evaluating work performance of subordinates and developing performance standards.
  • Provide instructions on work and administrative matters and make decisions on problems presented by subordinates.
  • Organize and assign work and make changes or adjustments in internal functions to better accomplish mission objectives.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license. Position requires driving a government vehicle for field work, movement of equipment and/or supplies between buildings, acquisition of supplies, or meetings at other locations.
