Overview

Our customer is seeking an Instrument Operator to support survey operations and assist a Survey Crew Leader with field data collection and surveying activities. This position offers hands‑on experience with surveying equipment and technology while providing a strong foundation for career growth within the surveying and infrastructure industries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and adjust survey measuring instruments, including levels, transits, theodolites, electronic measuring devices, and total stations with electronic data collection capabilities.
  • Perform field data collection activities accurately and efficiently.
  • Maintain assigned vehicles and field survey equipment.
  • Record accurate field notes and perform note reduction.
  • Support staking and marking activities in accordance with survey requirements.
  • Assist the Survey Crew Leader with survey‑related field operations.
  • Follow company safety procedures and project requirements.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to operate and help train others on survey equipment, including conventional and electronic instruments and computer hardware/software.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn all aspects of surveying.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions, including hot summer and colder conditions.
  • Technical aptitude and willingness to learn new technologies and equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience utilizing GPS survey equipment.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills.
  • Experience with Trimble survey platforms.
  • Experience using Carlson software and related tools.

Work Environment / Travel / Schedule

  • Primarily field‑based work environment.
  • Must be comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Travel and schedule requirements to be provided by the hiring team.
