Chief Operator Ultrasonic Testing

Plasser American Corp is seeking a Chief Operator Ultrasonic Testing to lead ultrasonic inspections on specialized railway track maintenance machines in Chesapeake, VA. In this role, you will set up, calibrate, and operate ultrasonic equipment, interpret test results, and document findings to support safe, reliable rail operations. You will collaborate closely with engineering, production, and service teams, following strict safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor ultrasonic testing equipment on specialized railway maintenance machinery to ensure track integrity and equipment reliability.
• Interpret ultrasonic test results, identify defects or irregularities, and document findings according to company and rail industry standards.
• Perform routine calibration, setup, and basic maintenance of ultrasonic testing systems and associated measurement tools.
• Collaborate with engineering, production, and maintenance teams to troubleshoot issues and recommend corrective actions based on test data.
• Follow strict safety protocols, lockout/tagout procedures, and quality guidelines while working around heavy rail equipment.
• Maintain accurate test records, reports, and digital logs to support compliance, traceability, and customer requirements.
• Support training efforts by sharing best practices in ultrasonic testing and safe operation with technicians and machine operators.
• Assist in field testing on customer sites and in the Chesapeake facility, adapting procedures to varying operating conditions.
