Financial Reporting Senior Consultant (USCG) About This Position
Financial Reporting Support Analyst role within the United States Coast Guard (USCG) Financial Service Center, supporting financial management operations, reconciliation, audit readiness, reporting automation, and stakeholder collaboration.
What You’ll Do- Perform reconciliations and analysis supporting monthly, quarterly, and annual DHS financial reporting.
- Investigate and resolve abnormal balances, general ledger discrepancies, and tie‑point variances.
- Retrieve, validate, and analyze data from accounting systems and external sources to support reporting.
- Prepare and document manual journal vouchers and topside/on‑top adjustments as required.
- Build and maintain audit‑ready reconciliation packages, work papers, and supporting documentation, including SOPs and desk guides.
- Support audit readiness, remediation, and responses to internal and external audit requests.
- Participate in verification and validation (V&V) reviews and internal sampling to confirm compliance and posting logic.
- Identify and support process improvements, reporting automation (dashboards/metrics), and recurring deadline management.
- Interim Secret clearance or equivalent.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.
- 6+ years of experience supporting federal financial management including accounting, audit readiness, financial reporting, and/or reconciliation activities.
- Experience with recurring monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting, reconciliations, audit support, and internal controls.
- Knowledge of GAAP, federal accounting standards, and financial reporting processes.
- Demonstrated attention to detail in developing or maintaining process documents (SOPs, desk guides, reconciliation documentation, technical procedures).
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (formula building, pivot tables, lookups, data analysis).
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with subject‑matter experts.
- Ability to manage multiple deliverables and meet recurring deadlines.
- Experience supporting DHS and/or USCG.
- Familiarity with DHS TIER reporting processes.
- Experience with Power BI, SharePoint, Power Query, VBA, ACL, SQL, or similar reporting/automation tools.
- CPA, CISA, CGFM, CDFM, DOD Level 2 FM, PMP, or related certification preferred.
- Experience supporting audit remediation or corrective action plans.
- Strong attention to detail and accountability in financial reporting activities.
- Ability to work independently while managing recurring deadlines and competing priorities.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Analytical mindset with a focus on process improvement and operational efficiency.
