We are seeking kind, caring, and reliable Direct Support Professionals to provide essential care and behavioral support to individuals with developmental disabilities. In this role, you will play a vital part in helping individuals lead safe, healthy, and fulfilling lives by promoting independence, dignity, and emotional well‑being.
About UsAt Southeast Virginia Training Center (SEVTC) we serve citizens with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We are an intermediate care facility operated by the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) where we support individuals in state‑of‑the‑art homes with accommodations unique to their specific needs. The Role
These positions are considered essential personnel and would be required to work in the event of an emergency or facility need. All SEVTC positions are required to work different shifts and/or overtime as requested.
- Assist individuals with daily living activities, personal care, and mobility support.
- Utilize behavior management strategies to support individuals exhibiting maladaptive behaviors.
- Provide emotional and behavioral support while promoting independence.
- Implement behavior intervention plans and work collaboratively with a support team.
- Foster a safe, structured, and positive environment.
3rd shift: 10:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m.
Shift Differential Is Available For This Shift3rd shift weekday $2.25 hr. weekend $3.00 hr.
All new hires must successfully complete the facility’s Pre‑service training program for Direct Support Professional Staff, to include Person Centered Approach techniques, CPR/First Aid Certification, TOVA, medication administration, nutritional management and physical/behavioral management, for continued employment. Training in behavior management and crisis intervention is available. (Pre‑service training class is 10 days long 8:00 am to 4:30 pm).

- Must be dependable, accountable, and reliable
- Must have ability to work a flexible schedule
- Must have ability to work with an integrated team.
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Must have active, valid driver’s license.
- Must have basic computer skills to include the ability to use keyboard, mouse and navigate an Electronic Health Record with minimum assistance after training.
- Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job with or without reasonable accommodation, which includes standing, bending, walking, pushing/pulling, lifting up to 50 pounds, providing support during all aspects of daily personal care, and intervening with aggressive behaviors.
- Successful completion of the facility’s Pre‑Service training program, which includes CPR, First Aid, medication administration, nutritional management, and physical/behavioral management, is required for continued employment.
- Ability to work collaboratively with co‑workers, Residential Supervisors and/or Supervisors, Administrator on Duty (after hour supervisors) and members.
