SEVTC, a facility within the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Services (DBHDS), is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Day Support Program Specialist – Q to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). This role is responsible for providing structured day support services that promote independence, skill development, and meaningful engagement both on campus and in the community.
The Day Support Program Specialist – Q plays a key role in delivering person-centered supports that enhance quality of life, encourage community integration, and foster ongoing skill advancement.

All new hires must successfully complete the facility’s Pre-service training program for Direct Support Professional Staff, including Person Centered Approach techniques, CPR/First Aid Certification, TOVA, medication administration, nutritional management, and physical/behavioral management. Training in behavior management and crisis intervention is available. (Preservice training class is 12 days long 8:00 am to 4:30 pm and one day 2p-10p).
AboutThe Role
- Plan, develop, and implement individualized day support programs aligned with each individual’s Support Plan.
- Facilitate skill-building activities including communication, daily living skills, recreation, vocational readiness, and community integration.
- Provide direct coaching, support, and supervision during day support programming.
- Collaborate with QIDPs, Therapies, Nursing, and Residential Services to support holistic person-centered care.
- Complete accurate documentation such as progress notes, data tracking, and daily logs in compliance with CMS, DBHDS, and facility standards.
- Implement behavior support strategies and ensure safety across all program settings.
- Support community outings, recreational activities, and transportation needs.
- Participate in meetings, required trainings, and ongoing program development.
- Bachelor's degree in one of the behavioral, social science or human service fields such as Special Education, Recreation Therapy, Psychology, Nursing or Social Work.
- Ability to write and verbally communicate effectively with Personal Support Team members, community employers, and business representatives, including summarizing data and writing concise progress reports.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.
- Ability to work independently while carrying out instructions and directives.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality with sensitive and highly confidential matters.
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and perform tasks independently.
- Ability to organize and maintain workflow efficiently.
- Ability to prepare reports using MS Office products and databases.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work accurately with details.
- Ability to maintain and organize health information within the electronic health record (EHR).
- Experienced or has knowledge in securing individuals in vehicles using seat belts and the 7-point safety straps system, for individuals using wheelchairs.
- Valid driver’s license.
