This opportunity is available to current City of Chesapeake employees. As the City of Chesapeake and Chesapeake Public Schools are separate governmental entities, employees of Chesapeake Public Schools are not included in the City employee eligibility requirement.

In accordance with City policy, this position is deemed safety-sensitive. As such, applicants for this position are subject to pre-employment drug/alcohol testing after receiving a conditional offer of employment and may also be subject to random testing. This drug test includes testing for marijuana. Possession of a medical marijuana card will not excuse an applicant from the testing process; however, a test will not be considered positive for marijuana if a valid medical marijuana certification is presented unless the position requires a commercial driver’s license ( CDL ) or is a sworn law‑enforcement officer/deputy.

This position provides pre-admission screening and crisis intervention to 24-hour Emergency Services unit and CIT Assessment Center. Position performs risk assessments to determine the appropriate level of care using the least restrictive alternative to manage crises. Advocates for individual requiring inpatient treatment, crisis stabilization or detox services. Requires experience in crisis intervention, diagnosis in the DSM
-5-TR with populations including serious mental illness, substance use and intellectual developmental disabilities. Clinician must possess the ability to relate and communicate with various populations, make clinical decision, analyze psychosocial data and communicate ideas verbally and in writing. Candidate must possess knowledge of state mental health statutes, pre-admission screening criteria and commitment process.

• Complete pre-admission screening and crisis intervention to 24-hour Emergency Services Unit and the CIT Assessment Center
• Complete risk assessments to determine the appropriate level of care using the least restrictive alternative to manage crises. Advocates for individuals requiring inpatient treatment, crisis stabilization or detox services.
• Consults with magistrate regarding and obtaining TDOs and ECOs to promote safety of individuals and the community. Maintains documentation in electronic health record in compliance with agency quality assurance standards. May provide 30-day crisis interventions to individuals who may require short term solution focused interventions.
• Coordinates admissions to hospitals and other outpatient treatment options.
• Represents CIBH in commitment hearings
• Works closely with law enforcement to triage mental health crises in the community.
• Completes crisis assessments and treatment plans
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requires a master’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or a closely related field, or another degree as approved by the Virginia Department of Health Professions.
