Job Duties

In this role, you’ll lead engaging group and individual interventions, design purposeful treatment plans, and adapt your approach to meet each person’s unique needs.

The Music or Recreation Therapist provides therapeutic group and individual interventions grounded in comprehensive assessment and evidence‑based practices. This role prepares clear, goal‑oriented treatment plans and adapts therapeutic approaches based on each patient’s response and evolving needs. The therapist facilitates experiences designed to enhance strengths, build coping skills, support emotional expression, and foster hope. Strong knowledge of therapeutic relationship dynamics, group processes, professional ethics, and clinical documentation standards is essential.

Effective written and verbal communication, along with the ability to engage respectfully with individuals of diverse backgrounds, cultures, identities, and beliefs, is required. This position requires a degree in Music or Recreation Therapy from an accredited institution and current professional certification/licensure or eligibility within six months.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Knowledge of principles of assessment and ability to modify treatment approaches based on patients’ response to interventions
  • Ability to prepare written treatment plans with objectives and interventions
  • Ability to conduct group and individual interventions
  • Knowledge of the dynamics and processes of a therapeutic relationship and of group therapy
  • Ability to provide therapeutic experiences that assist the patient to utilize and enhance their strengths, improve coping skills, and foster hope
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of professional standards of clinical documentation
  • Knowledge of professional code of ethics and the hospital’s ethical standards
  • Ability to interact with others in a manner that respects diversity and differences including but not limited to culture, gender, sexual orientation, and spiritual/religious practices.
  • Degree in Music or Recreation Therapy from an accredited college or university
  • Current professional certification/licensure or eligible within 6 months
Additional Considerations
  • Experience in a hospital setting
  • Experience working in a clinical setting
  • Experience working with older adults and/or individuals with mental health issues.
