GENERAL PURPOSE
This position performs highly technical work in the area of preventive and corrective maintenance on computer equipment and associated peripherals. Additionally, the position is responsible for assisting Network Administrators with maintenance and troubleshooting of the Wide Area and Local Area Networks, Network Operating Systems, servers, and installation of network supporting hardware and IOS's. Work is performed under regular supervision.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assists in the installation, maintenance, and repair of computers, printers, and related equipment and systems.
- Assists in the installation and maintenance of computer operating systems, operating environments, Internet browsers, and other utility software that may be required.
- Provides assistance in the inspection, troubleshooting, assembly, installation, and testing of various types of computers and associated peripherals used by the school division.
- Installs surge suppressors and other related equipment needed for the proper operation of computers and servers.
- Assists in the performance of preventive and corrective maintenance.
- Cleans and checks computer units on a regular basis.
- Performs software and hardware installations on stand-alone computers.
- Installs and assists in the maintenance of all types and brands of computers and related equipment.
- Provides technical assistance to end users.
- Assists in the training of end users in the use of educational computer equipment.
- Assists in evaluating the integration of new operating systems, computers and peripherals.
- Assists with the evaluation of software and analyzes for proper operation with new operating systems.
- Assists with research, information gathering, and planning for technology implementation.
- Monitors technical publications, industry news, and updates to stay knowledgeable of emerging technology.
- Exercises independent judgment in planning, scheduling, organizing, controlling, and monitoring of daily workload.
- Coordinates daily work schedule with school level supervisor and Information Technology, as required.
- Assist in the storage, preparation, and disposal of surplus equipment.
- Maintains accurate inventory of all computer related equipment and software licenses for the building.
- Performs other related duties as required/assigned.
- Associate's Degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- At least two years of full-time experience working with computer equipment and the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to acquire A+ certification.
- Network+ certification preferred.
- Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Knowledge of the operation, uses, and capabilities of computer equipment.
- Knowledge of methods and techniques used to maintain and repair computer equipment.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Operating systems (all levels).
- Knowledge of network protocol.
- Knowledge of local and wide area networks.
- Knowledge of network protocol, network support hardware, and IOS.
- Knowledge of software applications used throughout the division.
- Knowledge of antivirus software applications.
- Knowledge in data recovery techniques.
- Knowledge of telecommunications and Internet browsers and protocols (TCP/IP
