Sign Language Interpreter in Chesapeake, VA

Step into an impactful contract opportunity supporting students as a Sign Language Interpreter in a dynamic K-12 educational setting. Located in the vibrant Virginia Beach area, this full-time assignment offers the chance to work directly with elementary-aged children, providing 1:1 interpretation services. Youll collaborate with other professionals and help facilitate communication, learning, and social interaction for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.

This role is strictly onsite, with no virtual or hybrid options. Flexible deployment across school locations may be required if your assigned student is absent, allowing you to support where youre most needed each day.

• Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III required
• Strong preference for Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5; candidates with a score above 3.0, or QAS score of 3 or better will also be considered for an interview
• Demonstrated experience working with elementary students in an educational environment preferred
• Comfortable using Visa phonics is a plus, but not required
• Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills

• Provide 1:1 sign language interpretation for an assigned elementary student throughout the school day
• Support full participation in classroom activities, school events, and peer interactions
• Participate in team meetings and collaborate with staff to support student success
• Adapt to schedule changes and provide coverage for other students as needed
