Job OverviewThe Thermal Spray Technician I (SHIP) supports shipboard field operations involving thermal spray coatings on Naval vessels. This entry-level role requires flexibility, mechanical aptitude, and adherence to safety standards. Prior experience in industrial or marine settings is preferred.
Responsibilities- Assist in thermal spray coating applications on vessel surfaces.
- Perform surface preparation, including sandblasting and cleaning.
- Work safely in shipyard and onboard environments, including confined spaces.
- Use measuring tools to ensure coating quality.
- Handle and maintain thermal spray equipment.
- Complete documentation of operations.
- Follow safety protocols, including PPE use.
- Support quality inspections and team operations.
- Travel domestically and internationally to various shipyard locations.
- Participate in training to improve skills and safety awareness.
- Ability to learn thermal spray processes (Wire Arc, APS, Flame Spray, HVOF).
- Experience with metals and industrial environments preferred.
- Familiarity with precision measuring instruments.
- Attention to detail and quality assurance skills.
- Reliable with good attendance and punctuality.
- Effective communication skills.
- Ability to adapt and work safely in diverse environments.
- US Person status (citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual).
- Pass pre-employment background, drug, health, and respirator screenings.
- Travel 75%+ including international travel.
- Valid passport and driver’s license required.
- High school diploma or equivalent; manufacturing or shipyard experience preferred.
Must navigate ship environments, lift up to 50 lbs, wear PPE, and perform manual tasks for extended periods. Ability to pass health evaluations is required.
