This opportunity resides with Global Security (GS). Mission Technologies’ GS group focuses on LVC solutions, fleet sustainment, nuclear and environmental services, and Australia business. HII designs, develops and operates the largest LVC enterprise for warfighter readiness.
ResponsibilitiesThis role is contingent upon being awarded the contract.
- Display levels of quality, integrity, safety, respect, engagement, and performance consistent with company values.
- Support trades team by working on active class surface ships to assist with alterations and installations for fleet modernization.
- Perform all work in accordance with established quality and safety procedures.
- Perform a variety of simple and complicated tasks, both routine and non‑routine, related to shipboard structure, materials, and equipment to meet standards on various contracts.
- Perform duties outside of specialty to complete installations or work assignments.
- Work from blueprints, engineering sketches, charts, or work orders.
- Fabricate, repair, and modify structural elements and equipment utilizing a band saw, press brake, shear, iron worker and sheet metal roller among other equipment.
- Lay out and mark points and lines on parts or subassemblies using rule, square, scribe or templates.
- Cut, fit, assemble, and position pieces to be welded into jigs, holding fixtures, and existing structure using hand and powered tools.
- Apply comprehensive understanding of appropriate procedures, processes and production to fabricate, or repair parts of metal or other materials toward completion of assignments.
- Inspect completed work for conformance to specifications.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions to eliminate problems in minimum time.
- Participate in special projects as required.
- Develop and use technical documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents, reports and task reports.
- Maintain effective communications and relations. Provide reports to team and senior management.
- Forklift operation may be required. Training provided if necessary.
- High school education, trade school, or equivalent, and 4 years of related experience.
- Must be able to obtain medical clearance to wear a half‑face respirator.
- Must have working experience with band saws, press brakes, shears, iron workers, and sheet metal rollers, among other equipment.
- Must have strong working experience with reading and interpreting drawings, blueprints, technical manuals, engineering sketches, charts, and/or work orders as well as written and verbal instruction for products to be fabricated.
- Must be able to accurately read measuring devices to 1/16 of an inch. Must demonstrate applied comprehensive knowledge of quality control procedures to verify accuracy, compliance, and workmanship throughout all stages of fabrication and equipment operation.
- Must be able to follow and enforce safety procedures.
- Must have experience working in a team environment.
- Must be able to interface and communicate effectively with employees, customers, and management.
- Must be able to provide hand tools per trades designation.
- Experience in stick welding (SMAW), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW) and/or flux‑cored arc welding (FCAW) processes.
- Previous shipboard experience highly desired.
- Candidates who are currently enrolled or have graduated from, and/or completed, a vocational school or skilled trades certificate program are preferred.
Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes, no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May…
