Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Fitter / Fabricator to support the fabrication and assembly of heavy industrial rail equipment components. This role is responsible for layout, cutting, fitting, and welding of carbon steel components ranging from 1/8” to 4” thickness, using a variety of fabrication tools and welding processes. The ideal candidate will have strong experience working from blueprints and performing precision fabrication to build structural components such as frames, tanks, axle mounts, and custom assemblies.
This role is minimum on site 4 days a week in Chesapeake VA. Work schedule is 4 x 10 hour days with option overtime on Fridays when workload allows.
Compensation: $21/hr-28/hr exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.

- 3+ years of experience in fabrication / fitting
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and weld symbols to plan fabrication work
- Perform layout, fit-up, and fabrication of structural and mechanical components
- Cut and shape carbon steel materials (1/8” – 4” thick) using plasma cutters, oxy‑acetylene torches, and carbon arc gouging (air arc) equipment
- Fabricate and assemble components including structural frames, tanks and enclosures, axle mounts and heavy equipment components, custom brackets, supports, and fabricated parts
- Set up and operate flux core (FCAW) welding equipment to tack and weld assemblies
- Ensure proper alignment, fit‑up, and tolerances prior to welding
- Utilize hand tools, grinders, measuring tools, and layout equipment to achieve precise fabrication
- Perform grinding, cleaning, and preparation of weld surfaces
- Inspect completed work for quality and adherence to specifications
