Travel

Schedule:

3 weeks in field / 1 week home (subject to change). Territory Covered:
North America.

Job Duties
  • Oversee and manage numerous rail grinding and rail milling teams, including approving expenses, approving payroll, scheduling rotations, and participating in hiring of new team members.
  • Basic understanding of rail treatment: identify rail surface defects (spalling, corrugation, engine burns); understand how track geometry and substructure affect rail conditions; assess and/or survey rail conditions and develop long‑term treatment plans; provide input to the annual budget and oversee cost control for grinding and milling programs.
  • Know the difference between rail grinding and rail milling, when to perform each; have basic knowledge of grinding and milling operations, operational set‑up (grinders, watch trucks, final patrol); complete on‑site inspections and equipment audits; learn or already know how to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot grinding and milling equipment.
General Qualities
  • At least 5–7 years of railway experience in the engineering department.
  • Familiarity with grinding and milling practices and procedures common to the industry.
  • Strong coordinating, influencing, and communication skills across multiple functions.
  • Ready to be on call outside normal business hours and workdays.
  • Proficient with a computer and Microsoft Office.
  • Passport required or ability to obtain one.
  • Ability to obtain an e‑Rail Safe card.
