Oceaneering’s Marine Services Division (MSD) is seeking Inside Machinists with CNC programming, setup, and machining experience to support the manufacturing of complex, critical submarine components in a low-volume, build‑to‑print environment. This role requires knowledge of machining principles, precision measurement, and blueprint interpretation. Unlike high‑volume “widget” machining shops, our work consists of one‑off and non‑repeat builds with tight tolerances, exotic alloys, and high‑quality standards that directly support the U.S. Navy submarine fleet.

This role does not require travel but may require overtime.

• Review and edit CNC programs (lathe and mill) using G‑code and CAM platforms.
• Set up, align, and secure work pieces, fixtures, and tooling on CNC and manual machines.
• Conduct first‑article runs and validate programs to ensure dimensional accuracy and repeatability.

• Perform the setup and operation of a wide range of equipment that could include lathes, mills, grinders, saws, and other shop machinery.
• Machine complex components from materials such as HY‑80, HY‑100, stainless steel, Inconel, and other submarine‑grade alloys.
• Select the correct speeds, feeds, tooling, accessories, and cutting methods to achieve required tolerances and surface finishes, under some supervision.
• Perform complex machining operations with supervision, using both CNC and manual equipment as required.

• Read, interpret, and execute machining work using complex blueprints, drawings, manuals, GD&T callouts, and technical work documents.
• Assist with laying out work pieces, measuring and marking reference points, and planning machining processes for one‑off components.

• Inspect, measure, and verify machined features using OD/s, height gauges, depth gauges, calipers, verniers, dial indicators, layout tools, and other precision metrology equipment.
• Accurately record measurements, readings, and inspection data to ensure compliance with critical tolerances.
• Coordinate with Engineering, Quality, and Planning to resolve machining issues and ensure successful first‑time quality.

• Adhere to stringent submarine and Navy quality standards, including tight tolerances, high‑accuracy fits, and critical surface finishes.
• Follow all company, OSHA, and NAVSEA safety and cleanliness requirements.
• Support continuous improvement in tooling, fixturing, machining methods, and program efficiency.

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum two (2) years’ experience machining complex submarine, aerospace, defense, nuclear, or similar critical components in a precision or defense manufacturing environment.
• Demonstrated proficiency in CNC programming (lathe and mill). Ability to perform full setup and operate CNC and/or manual machines.
• Ability to edit existing programs and perform offsets as needed.
• Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications.
• Demonstrated working knowledge of shop math (e.g., convert between decimals and fractions, basic trigonometry for layout and measurements).
• Ability to perform in‑process inspections with accurate documentation to maintain quality standards.
• Demonstrated proficiency using precision measuring instruments and accurately documenting measurements.
• Ability to work independently, with occasional supervision.
• Must be a U.S. citizen who is not a dual citizen of any other country.

• Experience with exotic alloys and challenging machining conditions.
• Familiarity with NAVSEA or military specifications.
• CAM software experience (Mastercam, Solid Works, etc.).
• Strong troubleshooting and root‑cause problem‑solving skills.

• Attention to detail and quality craftsmanship.
• Strong communication skills with a collaborative mindset.
• Ability to coordinate effectively with individuals in other departments, such as Quality or Engineering.
