The Engineering Technician III performs assignments that are not completely standardized or prescribed, selects or adapts standard procedures or equipment, using fully applicable precedents, receives initial instructions, equipment requirements, and advice from supervisor or engineer as needed, performs recurring work independently. Work is reviewed for technical adequacy or conformity with instructions. This technician performs at this level one or a combination of such typical duties as:
- Constructing components, subunits, or simple models or adapts standard equipment; may troubleshoot and correct malfunctions.
- Following specific layout and scientific diagrams to construct and package simple devices and subunits of equipment.
- Conducting various tests or experiments which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement, selecting, preparing, and operating standard test equipment and records test data.
- Extracting and compiling a variety of engineering data from field notes, manuals, lab reports, etc., processing data, identifying errors or inconsistencies, selecting methods of data presentation.
- Assisting in design modification by compiling data related to design, specifications, and materials that are pertinent to specific items of equipment or component parts; developing information concerning previous operational failures and modifications and using judgment and initiative to recognize inconsistencies or gaps in data and seek sources to clarify information.
In this role, you will:
- Fabricate, assemble, integrate, and install communication, network, and security systems into a variety of military and government agency platforms, such as boats, vehicles, buildings, and transit cases.
- Fabricate a variety of RF, data, and power cables using solder and crimp techniques.
- Work with Quality Control, Engineering, Project Managers, and other functional groups to provide feedback and resolve issues.
- Read and interpret technical drawings for fabrication and installation of communication, network, and security systems.
- Travel all over the world in support of our various customers.
All work is performed according to industry best practice and Mil Standards in accordance with Quality Assurance standards. The hourly rate for this position is set by the Dept of Labor and is not negotiable. Current rate is $24.87/hr this position is located in Chesapeake, Virginia. There is no relocation assistance available for this position. Applicants must be currently residing in or state willingness to relocate self to Chesapeake, Virginia or surrounding areas.
Required Education, Experience, &
Skills:
- High school diploma and at least 4 years of related experience
- Cable fabrication experience
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, drawings, and instructions
- Mechanical aptitude and experience with a range of hand and power tools
- Ability to frequently work in an sitting, standing, or walking position
- Ability to frequently lift and carry 10 pounds and occasionally lift and carry 50+ pounds
- Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and work with hazardous material
- Ability to work in confined spaces
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. state driver's/operator's/permit
- Ability to travel within the U.S. and overseas (up to 50%) and obtain a US passport, as required
- Basic operational skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office programs such as Outlook and Excel
EMPLOYEE WILL BE REQUIRED TO HAVE A PERSONAL SET OF BASIC HAND TOOLS. LIST OF REQUIRED TOOLS WILL BE PROVIDED.
Preferred Education, Experience, &
Skills:
- Familiarity with FOSOV communications equipment
- Complex soldering and cable fabrication experience
- Metal fabrication experience
- Fiber Certified / BICSI Cableway training (such as NAVSEA Cableway Certification)
- Audio / Visual / Teleconferencing installation experience
- Commercial Electronic Security System experience
- Fall Protection Training for working at height
Pay Information:
This position is covered by a wage law called the McNamara-O'Hara Service Contract Act (SCA). The wage range for this position is determined by the Wage and Hour Division of the Department of Labor on a contract-by-contract basis.
