Pipe Fitter

Position Description & Qualifications If you love and enjoy engaging in manual projects supporting the U.S Navy and our U.S Naval Ships, Serco has a great opportunity for you! As a Pipe Fitter, you will be part of a dynamic team supporting our US. Navy Ships with equipment, and C5

ISR system installations located in the beautiful surroundings in Norfolk, VA and work closely with the customer and other Serco team members to deliver high technology performed on-board U.S. Naval Ships and military installations. Serco supports our US Naval Ships with successful and safe work by providing cabling, equipment, and C5

ISR system installations for our Military. You will join an amazing team to fabricate, and assemble various electromechanical and electronic assemblies by applying appropriate safety techniques. In this role, you will:

  • Interpret specifications, drawings, blueprints, shop job orders and, process sheets.
  • Have knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
  • Work onboard U.S. Naval Ships and military installations in an area that is somewhat uncomfortable due to drafts, noise, temperature variation and the like and with equipment where carelessness would probably result in minor cuts, bruises, muscle strains, serious injury, or death.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • The ability to obtain and maintain an Active Secret Clearance.
  • US Citizenship.
  • A High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 4 years of pipe fitting experience or similar/relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with NAVSEA, standard concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • The ability to get respirator qualified and wear proper PPE throughout their work shift.
  • The ability to work in high heat spaces, climb shipyard dry dock stairs/ladders, work in kneeling position for layout of cable runs under false decking, lift 50 pounds with 80% of work requiring carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to 40 pounds for majority of shift while being in a standing, crouching, or walking position.
  • Attention to safety (which is critical).
  • The ability to obtain access to shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS), undergo a background investigation and pass a drug screening.
  • The ability to travel up to 25% to various work sites.

Additional desired experience and skills:

  • An active or current Secret Clearance
  • Shipyard Experience
  • OSHA Certification
