General Scope: Responsible for developing, maintaining, and optimizing CNC programs for the manufacture of precision components. Interprets engineering drawings, specifications, and manufacturing requirements to create efficient and accurate machining programs. Evaluates tooling, machining methods, and process requirements; updates existing programs as designs, equipment, tooling, or manufacturing processes change. Works closely with machinists, machine shop leadership, engineering, and other stakeholders to improve safety, quality, productivity, and machine efficiency while reducing scrap, rework, and downtime.
Position Summary:
- The CNC Programmer is responsible for developing, maintaining, verifying, and optimizing CNC programs used to manufacture precision components and parts. This position interprets engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, tolerances, and other technical documentation to determine the appropriate machining processes, tooling, cutting parameters, sequencing, and machine movements required to produce quality parts safely and efficiently.
The CNC Programmer develops programs for new jobs and modifies existing programs when there are changes to part designs, engineering revisions, materials, tooling, machine capabilities, or manufacturing processes. The position reviews programs for accuracy, proper tool paths, dimensional requirements, machine clearances, and potential programming errors before programs are released for production.
The position works closely with machinists, machine shop leadership, engineering, maintenance, and other internal stakeholders to troubleshoot machining and programming issues, identify root causes of quality or production problems, and implement effective corrective actions. The CNC Programmer supports continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to reduce scrap and rework, improve cycle times, extend tool life, increase machine utilization, and improve overall process consistency.
The CNC Programmer is expected to maintain accurate program documentation, follow established programming and safety procedures, incorporate approved tooling and machining technologies, and ensure CNC programs promote safe, repeatable, and efficient machine operation. The position may also assist with program testing, first-piece validation, process…
