Position: Advanced Practice Nurse (Mental Health)

Advanced Nurse Practice (APN) Position

The Advanced Nurse Practice (APN) position is located within the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) – Veterans Health Administration (VHA) – under the Mental Health and Behavioral Sciences Service Line (MHBS). The NP will provide advanced clinical practice, consultation, and management. This announcement is open continuously until closed.

Duties
  • Independently manages a panel of patients with acute and chronic health conditions with an emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention using evidence-based practice.
  • Develops and implements an individualized plan to achieve optimal population health and disease management.
  • Demonstrates leadership and works collaboratively with Primary Care Team and other interdisciplinary team members.
  • Orders and interprets diagnostic studies.
  • Prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions.
  • Initiates referrals/consults to specialty services.
  • Provides education to patients and their families.
  • Assesses and adjusts the plan of care as needed to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

  • VA Nurse Total Rewards Pay:
    Competitive salary with regular salary increases and potential for performance awards.
  • Paid Time Off: 50 days per year (26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays).

    Monday‑Friday, 8:00 am‑4:30 pm.

    Not authorized.
  • EDRP Authorized:
    Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply for incentive.
  • Permanent Change of Station (PCS):
    Not authorized.
  • Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP):
    Eligible for student loan payment reimbursement up to $200,000 over one to five years.
Qualifications
  • Must meet all VHA policy eligibility requirements, including EDRP eligibility, and submit EDRP application within four months of appointment.
  • Former EDRP participants are ineligible for this position.
