DescriptionChesapeake Regional Healthcare started an open heart‑surgery program in the spring of 2024. Over the years, we have earned numerous accolades and accreditations for our existing interventional cardiology program. By expanding into open heart‑surgery, we have been able to provide a smart choice for life‑saving services to the communities of southeastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina.
The Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU) is an 8‑bed unit housed within the Critical Care Tower. We use a universal bed model such that patients are admitted to their room after surgery and are discharged from the same room, which has proven to be excellent for patient and family experiences.
