Position: Registered Nurse - OR (Part-time)

Registered Nurse (RN) is expected to provide clinically competent patient care using the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation, while interacting effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members. The RN ensures quality care and efficient resource use, evaluates outcomes against evidence‑based practice, and functions within the scope defined by the American Nurses Association and the Nurse Practice Act of Virginia.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Work 12‑hour inpatient shifts; specialty units may vary.
  • Complete comprehensive nursing assessments at admission, including history and standard protocol.
  • Interpret data and establish nursing diagnoses.
  • Initiate and update standard of care within established time frames.
  • Provide individualized patient/family teaching and evaluate understanding.
  • Plan and implement discharge plan from admission throughout hospitalization.
  • Communicate unit activities, needs, and problems to clinical coordinator and charge nurse.
  • Organize and reprioritize work based on staff, patient, resource, and unit needs.
  • Demonstrate theoretical knowledge, critical thinking, and prioritization for patient needs.
  • Safely administer medication and accurately verify orders.
  • Consistently demonstrate competence in patient care areas.
  • Solicit feedback from patients and visitors.
  • Perform most procedures independently and seek assistance when needed.
  • Respond effectively to emergency situations and document patient care per policy.
  • Maintain a safe environment, reduce infection risk, and adhere to infection control guidelines.
  • Foster teamwork, participate in quality improvement, supervise LPN and UAP, and review data collection.
  • Perform charge nurse duties when assigned, ensuring compliance with policies, clear communication of vision and goals, and effective problem‑solving.
  • Build constructive relationships with staff and maintain positive employee morale, encouraging teamwork and excellence.
  • Mentor and precept students and new hires, serve as resource, attend required orientations and meetings, and demonstrate flexibility in scheduling.
Qualifications
  • Must be a Registered Nurse licensed in Virginia or a compact state.
  • Must obtain Basic Life Support certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Preferred Education:

    Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Preferred Experience:

    Minimum of 1 year in an acute care setting.
